Advanced manufacturing is about innovation and technology. Many products you use every day were engineered, developed and manufactured here in Western New York, from laptops and cell phones to life-changing medical devices. It’s also a growing sector in need of highly skilled employees—more than 20,000 advanced manufacturing jobs will be available in Western New York in the next 10 years. According to the Buffalo Niagara Labor Market Assessment, the average salary for mid-level advanced manufacturing occupations is $47,943.
Governor Andrew M. Cuomo’s comprehensive energy plan—called Reforming the Energy Vision (REV)—sets a new vision that brings New York’s energy infrastructure into the 21st Century. From clean and renewable energy to smart grid technology, REV will create new jobs in need of highly skilled workers. New York State is currently facing a deficiency of young workers with skills in the energy sector. Entry-level utility line workers can earn between $40,000 and $50,000 annually.
